Every year they disappear.
The leaves fade away, the garden grows quiet, and for months there's little sign that anything remains beneath the soil.
Then one morning, almost without warning, these flowers rise from the earth.
They remind us that absence isn't the same as an ending. Some things simply need time before they bloom again.
As I painted this piece, the flower slowly dissolved into movement. The petals stretch into the sky, becoming something between wind, cloud, and flame. Handwritten observations drift beneath the paint, fading in and out like memories that shape the way we see the world, even after we've forgotten their exact words.
Rather than painting a botanical illustration, I wanted to paint the feeling of impermanence. The quiet confidence that life continues beneath the surface, even when we can't see it.
Like many of my paintings, this work is an invitation to pause. To trust the seasons we cannot control. To believe that growth often happens long before it becomes visible.
