Cactus Blossoms

from $45.00
A quiet study of blooming prickly pear cactus, painted from memory and observation.

Soft color, layered brushwork, and handwritten notes beneath the surface invite the viewer to slow down and discover beauty that is often overlooked.

Most people notice the cactus.

I couldn’t stop looking at the flowers.

There’s something unexpected about them. Against all those sharp edges and heavy green forms are these delicate blooms that seem to appear almost without warning. They don’t last long, and maybe that’s part of what makes them so beautiful.

This painting began as a memory from time spent wandering with my camera, collecting moments that most people would simply walk past. Rather than trying to document the landscape exactly as it was, I wanted to paint the feeling of standing there. The warmth of the day, the quiet colors, and the surprise of finding something so gentle growing from something so rugged.

Beneath the paint are handwritten notes layered into the surface, a reminder that every painting begins as an observation before it becomes an image. The marks fade in and out, much like memories themselves.

I hope this piece encourages you to slow down for a moment. To notice the small things. To remember that beauty often asks us to pay attention before it reveals itself.
